This bridge can be considered the gateway to the Cannaregio district. It is one of only two bridges that cross Cannaregio Canal, and is located closest to Stazione Santa Lucia. Originally constructed in 1580, it was rebuild in 1823, when the spires, which give the...More

This was one of the first bridges that we crossed on our arrival from the train station. It wasn't bad pulling luggage towards our hotel. Quite a managable and wide bridge which leads towards the busy Rio San Leonardo.

You will most certainly cross this bridge if you walk from the station to San Marco. It is quite a wide bridge with handrails and on each side the steps are less step which is useful if pulling a wheeled case ( however i think...More

This is a lovely bridge which serves as a main entrance to the historic Cannaregio district. It leads directly onto the street on which the Pasticceria Nobile (best cannoli in Venice) is located further down. This district is quieter than some, but has much of...More

A few minutes walk from the Santa Lucia railroad station, this bridge is part of an easy route to follow to the San Marco Historic District. It crosses the Cannaregio Canal, close to the Western edge of the Grand Canal. The stone-and-brick arched span went...More

It's not far from the Santa Lucia train station- less than a 5 minute walk. It crosses into the Cannaregio district, home to the old former Jewish ghetto. This is not the prime tourist district, but even in mid-September, this place was full of tourists...More

This is a really nice area of Venice and should be a point to explore for everyone. It still has the hustle and bustle but with some nice on-street markets along the way and a really good choice of cafes and restaurants.

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Best to take a Vaporetto (public water taxi) to Piazza Roma, as St. Marks square is a long ways away. The Vaporetto is inexpensive with a day pass and the best way to get around by far. From Piazza Roma, the Cannareggio... More
