We wanted to see the rooftop track and had read that a gallery ticket was needed to gain access. When a security guard told us the gallery was closed for renovations we were crestfallen...but he used his key in the lift and we got up to the roof for nothing. Wonderful views, great fun racing about and thinking of all the FIATs tested there...and the three wee Italian Job minis.

We went to pay dues to The Italian Job. We discovered that the Turin metro is clever, clean and efficient. We found the wonderful Eataly nearby. We failed to find a way to the roof, despite all the previous TA advice. Doors, ( we wanted to blow them bloody off) and galleries were closed. We found no help or way up. We walked down numerous blind alleys including the road upwards which was sealed off. Better luck next time.

The lingotto building has been turned in to a vast shopping mall and it’s actually a really great place if you need to get some shopping done. Atop the shopping centre is the test track that was used by lingotto when it was a car factory and it’s definitely worth a look up there if you’re prepared to pay the fee for the gallery that now owns this space. If you like art and racing tracks then obviously this is a perfect day out but I’ve gotta say the gallery itself is pretty small and nothing outstanding was on view when we visited, and I love an art gallery. Anyway no one was there for the art. Every single person that paid for the gallery then immediately headed out to the test track to capture all their Instagram required pics. The test track itself is pretty cool but it is also starting to wear away quite dramatically. Not much to see view wise from the roof but this is all about the track anyway. The door to the track is right by the gallery ticket area. If you don’t wanna pay you can still see parts of the area where the cars would drive down within the actual shopping mall. Still some good photos to be had there although to be honest it kinda looks like car parks you see nowadays with its curvy route. Still great to see though.

If you want to see the rooftop test track you need to buy a ticket for this gallery. You see the track and as a bonus some art.... You might be very suprosed at how steep the banked corners at each end of the track are. Enjoy.

The shopping centre itself is pretty decent. Do not look at the opening times for the test track on here. They're the same times as the art museum on the 4th floor called Pinacoleta Giovanni e Marcella Agnelli (10am til 7pm). Last entrance is 6.15pm I think. When you come out the lift for the museum the race track is right there, some people tried to go outside and the woman was right on them telling them they need to buy a ticket for the museum ( which cost 8 euros ). The people who were buying tickets (including my partner) went straight out to the race track despite the woman trying to get them to go in the museum first. Even a discounted ticket would be better just for the race track - are they trying to get numbers on paper for the art museum? Or just trying to rake in money? You can see part of it through the windows so depends how bothered about it are!
