The area

Neighborhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Important hub for the Milan urban transport system
May 2020 • Solo
With the most central railway station of the city, two lines of underground , tram and many bus , this is one of the most important hub for the Milan urban transport system.
The square is dominate from the facade of the railway station, not very nice, then the colored sculpture of needle, the thread and knot.
Many modern buildings contrast with beautiful old building

Unexpected
Sep 2019 • Family
Quite unexpected find it was to disover needle and a thread in full colours in the middle of Milan's heavy traffic.

Needle and thread square
Mar 2018 • Friends
This square has an architecture of a needle and thread and is a central place to catch trains and metro for airport. The overall ambiance is appealing with lots of eating places around.

Heavy traffic
Aug 2017 • Couples
One of the main traffic junctions in the city with crossroad of several streets, two lines of metro and a constant flow of cars and people. It is dedicated to the Italian general and politician, Luigi Cadorna, the chief of staff of the Italian army during the beginning of the First World War.

Interesting sculpture
May 2017 • Couples
Piazzale Luigi Cadorna is a famous site probably only because of the amazing, colourful sculpture of the Needle, Thread and Knot. The square itself is not anything special, but this sculpture creates such interest. We wanted to go there just to see the sculpture. And it was just great. It takes up most of the square. It is not just one piece. The 'thread' seems to go underground at one point and then resurfaces further down the square, as a knot. It is quite intricate and different! It was created about twenty or so years ago as a symbol of Milan's fashion status. In this light, it definitely works! It is worth a visit, and it will cost you absolutely nothing, but a few minutes of your time!

Just another piazza
Dec 2016
There is nothing really exceptional about this square. It is the site of a junction of a metro, subway and major railway station and the buildings around the square are not that exceptional. The only thing of interest is a piece of public art in the shape of a giant needle, thread and knot to signify the industriousness and hard work in Milan.
