- nasty KEurope140 contributionsDuomo is the pearl of the townThe main attraction here is the Duomo. I read somewhere that this is the best example of the transformation of Gothic into Renaissance. Like all Gothic cathedrals, it was built over the course of centuries. Construction of the cathedral began in 1396 and was completed almost 400 years later - in 1770, when a rococo dome was built over the cathedral. Not only the marble facade is interesting, but also the interior. The cathedral offers free tours and also has a display case detailing the history of the cathedral with illustrations and photographs.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 14, 2023
- HolidaymakerfromHoveBrighton and Hove, United Kingdom1,605 contributionsBeautiful Duomo………….We visited once during our 6 day stay in Como but walked past it several times every day. It’s the focal point of Como Town. One day when we were passing there was a service on and the choir were singing, it was really very moving. We stayed in an apartment 2 mins away and heard the church bells regularly throughout the day. The cathedral was free to enter and was beautiful inside and out. The best thing was how the colours of the stone changed during the sunset and when it rained. We enjoyed our visit here and used the duomo daily to get our bearings. The piazza in front of the duomo is good too. Highly recommended when in Como.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023

Strolling through a compact town centre like Como, you will surely not miss the imposing Como Cathedral. Construction of this Gothic cathedral commenced at the end of the 14th century, and took almost 4 centuries to complete. The Cathedral looked resplendent at dusk during the Christmas season with the equally imposing Christmas tree at Piazza Duomo lighting up its facade and the night sky. The interior is impressive in its own right though it does not exude the wow factor unlike other bigger European cathedrals.

With Como being a fairly small town cathedral size makes it unmissable when walking around the town.
Lovely architectural designed to the external building making you stop and have a look from the outside, once you enter the inside of cathedral just as impressive to see and enjoy the decor and art work etc.

Absolutely beautiful and grand. The details are amazing. It's very goth on the outside. A must-see if you are in Como center.

Beautiful inside and out.
There was a ceremony welcoming the new priest on the day we went, so we had to wait, which was fine, worth the wait, simply beautiful, especially the ceilings and stained glass.

Multiple architectural styles in this Cathedral. Lovely art and classic dome. Good for an hour if you study the interior.

I didn't see any sign explicitly stating that dogs are not allowed, but I don't think so - dogs are not allowed in any catholic church.
