This fairly large archaeological site is next to the main road but on the opposite side to the Basilica Complex. There were archaeologists working on the site.
The site is free to enter between certain hours. There are the remains of a number of Roman dwellings believed to have been originally built in the 4th century but subsequently built over. You can clearly see how the rooms and corridors in several of the dwellings were laid out as well as the plumbing. There were also several mosaic floors that could clearly be seen.

It is amazing how close you can get to these ruins. They are across the highway from the Basilica and it is very interesting to see the progress of the digs. As time goes on, there will be more and more interesting finds, but this particular spot concentrates on Roman residences. It is a nice complement to the Forum, port, and religion sites found elsewhere around Aquileia. It's not one of the main advertised spots and you might even miss it, but if you are interested in archeology make sure you stop here.

This archaeological site is right on the side of the main road into Aquileia and it is free and easy to access. You will see the rests of buildings of the residential quarters from Roman times, with great mosaic floors still well kept and visible.
