Here they all are ,gathered in one tiny area of land: Mount Conero,Sirolo and Numana. Our genial guides pointed out these jewels of the Riviera,as they reviewed the exciting charter of discovery in this town . Ancona has a plethora of beaches sprinkled along the slopes, with facilities to match. The flowering season of the brooms,is a must-visit as well as when the weather is good which gives a special coloration to the bays and small inlets. First off we were taken to see the recttilinear rock that seems a sword plunged into the sea. Portonova is a treasure specifically because it has been left in its natural state without building developments. We skirted the small lake and the Napoleonic fortress. The visit to the church of Santa Maria,a real jewel of the Romanesque style with an atmosphere of mysticism of this benedictine abbey. Our guides moved us towards Mt Conero which is a lovely parkland, our view fixed as far as San Benedetto ,where the red wine Rosso Conero is produced. We stopped at a lovely old hermitage founded by the romans in the 11th century. Many thanks to this urbane group who make superb travelling companions while interpreting an exceptional itinerary. Bravo gentlemen.
