Address
Neighborhood: Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

A trip to Vatican City would not be complete without visiting St Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world.
We climbed first thing in the morning at 7:30am, before the crowds swarmed the place - and had the Dome all to ourselves for a while.
The interior of the Basilica is breathtaking - construction was completed in 1626, its architecture and design much influenced by Michelangelo, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Raphael.
Fun fact: The facade of St Peter’s Basilica is made with the marble stairs “recycled” from the Colosseum

By far the best church we saw in Rome and there are loads of them in this city so it says a lot. Seeing La Pieta is a must and if you get a chance go to the undergrounds where the majority of the Popes are buried.

There is little that has not been said about this visit, but I would like to point out the multitude of sights inside the Basilica. Small details abound and can be easily enjoyed. There are areas to pray for those that want a more reflective visit. Mass was being conducted on the left side of the main altar when we were visiting.

Probably one of the most beautiful things we have seen in Italy. The size is beyond belief and the art is uncomparable. We toured the church with a guide, which was a good idea because there was so much to learn. There was a bit of a line for security check and covid check ( they take your temperature) but it went quickly. This is a must if you visit Rome.

Visited on an extremely wet day in December. After the gardens, the museums, the necropolis. The space is awe-inspiring.

It is best to visit here early in the morning. I arrived just after 9 am and there was no queue. When I was leavig a t 10.30 am, the queue was over ten times longer. I pased on the guided tour and visitied the Basilica on my own. It is an impressive building and well worth visiting.

The most impressive church I’ve ever seeing,
Only free of charge sightseeing in Vatican.
There is always line to get in, but it’s smart and fast, it’s obviously worth seeing. It’s beautiful, huge, historical, and you will fill vibe of the place. I was there for few times, and definitely come back here!!!

Beautiful basilica and resting place of the First Pope - Paul. Lovely inside the basilica but i really enjoyed the trip up to the dome (500 / elevator plus 370 steps) which gives amazing areal views of the basilica and also the city itself.

We walked in at the start of 5 o'clock mass and it took my breath away. We heard the organ, the choir and the service while we took in the incredible art and history in the basilica. Not to be missed, regardless of religious background!
