Very small but stunningly beautiful library. Visitors welcome but access to books and seating is limited. Staff very accommodating the day I was there. I stayed for about an hour and felt privileged to do so. A real pleasure.

Behind piazza Navona, this hidden gem is one of the most ancient public libraries in the whole Europe and the earliest to publicly open in Rome at the beginning of the 17th century. At present, the entry is allowed to all those who are over 16 years old with an identity document. The opening time can change but it's usually open on workdays during the morning (however, always check the website news section). Guided group tours are available upon previous appointment with the didactic office. Always remember that this is also a working library where people actually come to read, study and research in silence.

Arrived to find a hand written note on the door, that the library was closed for the day. Returned the next day as we were keen to compare this ancient library with other great libraries we had visited throughout Europe. We staggered up the steep stairs to find unhelpful staff who only allowed us in to the library entrance hall which was a wonderful space, but we really wanted to visit the whole library.

One of the most beautiful libraries you'll ever see. Well worth the quick stop between the big Roman attractions! Tourists are welcome but there is a limited section to visit. Absolutely breath-taking.

It is a working library, so I recommend that you keep your voices down. We were able to walk around and take only 1 picture. It has collections that are very old. It is a short visit but worth your while. It is very small, be careful not to miss it. I walked pass it and had to turn around to find it.
