We chose to cycle part of the route from Baci Bici bike hire near the Colosseum so as to cover more ground. This proved to be a good choice on a very hot Sunday but my hybrid bike struggled a bit with the terrible surfaces,...More

How you feel when you walk on the paving of Appia Antica Street? Like you can breathe all the history that pass from there in the last 2.000 years. Be part of that... you will not regret.

At some point when walking or biking on Via Appia Antica, the realization hits you that you are walking on the same stones as Julius Caesar--minus the rampant conquering and licentious marauding. It's easy to get to: a bus from the coliseum takes you there....More

I was told to go on foot and not do the bike ride because it could be dangerous, but as soon as I arrived I realized that maybe that wasn't quite true. Anyway, it's a park, a regular park with a historic pavement. Transportation to...More

We hired cycles at the start of the Via Appia Antica - €3 per hour or €15 for the day. You pay when you return the bicycles so you dont have to worry about being out longer than planned. You will need to leave photographic...More

This was the first road build in Rome. It is quite far away from Rome city center (around 1h away), but it is worth to visit it, as you may feel the spirit of those times. I suppose that there are also tours on horses...More

Starting at Villa Dei Quintily, it was a long walk back to the start, in warm weather. The road was quite busy today, as it turned out to be Appian Day! There are plenty of fountains along the road to refill your needed waterbottle. It...More

On Sunday’s the road is closed off to cars in the park portion of the road. We rented bikes and enjoyed the ancient ruins, monuments, the countryside, and a nice view of the aqueduct! Highly recommend!

Again, we took the Metro to the park and took a beautiful stroll on the road leading to the park. There is a large church in the park, but you walk around that to get to the park. We were very impressed to see the...More
