Pompeii Ruins & Mt Vesuvius Volcano Day Trip from Rome

4,447 reviews
While vacationing in Rome, spend time away from the big city without doing a ton of planning on a guided tour of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Hike to Mt. Vesuvius' crater (summer only) and explore Pompeii with a guide, discovering lesser-known historical info as you go, and don’t worry about entrance fees they are included.

Well from my point of view the sales girl was not pushy at all. We booked a tour of the Amalfi coast which was well worth it with geat views & lots of photo op's, we stopped & visited many locations incliding a grotto. Enjoyed it that much that we went back to the office & booked another tour to Capri which is a lovely island ( but very expensive needing 2 x coffees & 1 orange juice when stepping off the ferry cost €18) Also booked a Vesuvius tour with them, so fair to say we were more than happy with what they had to offer.

Looking at some of the reviews I’d be a little dubious myself about booking trips with this company, however my personal experience was fantastic. Yes, you are offered a free map as it doubles as a tourist office, but we weren’t forced into purchasing anything. I’m so glad we did! We ended up booking four separate trips with this company and had the same guide for three of them. His name was Rosario and he couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant if he tried and certainly made our trip :) He stopped at all the major panoramic view points for photos, gave an excellent commentary and when English was a little confusing he used google translate. I have to say his music choices for the journey were excellent and the whole bus was like a party bus! If you’re out for a good time you’ll certainly get it, but if you’re one for moaning then they’ll always be something. We were definitely made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our trips to all the locations.

My wife and I had planned a day trip to Naples, Pompeii and a hike up Vesuvius. After a couple hours of research on Google and some well laid out plans we drove out to Pompeii to check out the ruins first and then after that, drive to Vesuvius to do our hike up. As we walked to try and find the entrance to the ruins we were stopped by a girl at this small and seemingly professional outfit. At first I just shrugged her off and kept walking, but she blurted out that she wasn't selling anything and was just offering a free map. Ok, I said. Well I should have went with my gut instinct. She then led us to believe we were heading for the exit of the ruins ( which the entrance was literally 100 feet away ). Not knowing the area, I didn't know any better and believed her. She went on to say we could do a tour of the ruins and get in faster somehow since everyone was going in with a group and it could take a while, so if we were heading to Vesuvius we should do that first. We were then offered a ridiculous price to take a bus tour up to the mountain (which at the time I didn't know we could have done it better and cheaper somewhere else). To top it all off, she also told us we couldn't drive there! Really?? So, it wasn't until being on the bus and driving up and seeing people parking their cars that we realized we got duped. Please don't let this happen to you! The place has a sign that says 'Tourist office'. At the time it was just a couple of girls working. Its next to Pasticceria De Vivo - which on a side note was pretty good. Maybe i'll write a review for them. I hope you come across this terrible business and let them know that this is not how you do business.

To start, they don't rent motorcycles, as they mention on their website. They rent scooters only, and at quite high prices. The scooters have a mileage limitation of 40km per day, any extra kilometers added will cost the user 1/2€ per km. The managers were also quite rude when we were renting the scooter and when we returned it. Overall, there are better scooter rentals in the area. Avoid this one.

Locals in Pompei warned us they were shonky. Don’t hire guides for Pompei here. They double the price. Instead, use certified guides! Despite the warnings, we used them to go to Herculaneum because they were close. The trip was advertised as 20 mins drive there, two hour stop, 20 mins back. We are in our 60s ad 70s. They left us there for FOUR HOURS. We were very cold, tired and had nowhere to sit while waiting for their bus. When we returned to the Pompei office, I complained about the shoddy treatment. The ‘manager’ screamed at me. Told me to “shut up” and then, because he could not control his temper, walked out of the office and of down the street. The locals will tell you, THIS LOT IS VERY SHONKY. BUYER BEWARE!!
