Pompeii Ruins & Mt Vesuvius Volcano Day Trip from Rome

4,447 reviews
While vacationing in Rome, spend time away from the big city without doing a ton of planning on a guided tour of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Hike to Mt. Vesuvius' crater (summer only) and explore Pompeii with a guide, discovering lesser-known historical info as you go, and don’t worry about entrance fees they are included.

This is on the side of the forum in a fenced in case. It shows some of the artifacts which were found during excavations. The photo is one of the cast dead. There is also a baby cast too which brings home the suddeness and sadness of the eruption

This is an area of great interest, there are vases and various artefacts kept in this part, which we can only see from a partitioned wall, it was sad for me to see two particular remains of the Pompeii people who died, there bodies had casts taken as they were found including a young child laying on his side just the moment they died instantly, very emotional to see.

This was one of the most profound parts of Pompeii. You can see many artifacts and plaster casts of the bodies discovered in the city. I have seen the photos in books, but it is nothing like seeing it in real life.

This is a very touching reminder of why we are able to see Pompeii today. There is a lot to see in these display areas. Do take your time as this area can get a bit crowded with tours but they soon move off

This is just one of the many artifacts you will see when visiting Pompeii. I read that these casts are made by filling in hollow areas where bodies once laid with plaster. I was also told that the only place with these casts is Pompeii. While the museum in Naples does have many artifacts from Pompeii, there were no casts on display that I saw.
