A place to visit with a guide that can tell you about the history. Sculptures of Igor Mitoraj are all over the place and is beautiful. Between the ruins a lot of history, a place that worth to visit.

We found Bruno on internet (http://visiteguidatepompei.it/) and booked him in advance. Our group was composed by my wife, my kids and me. Bruno was wonderful with the kids making them enjoy a visit that is usually very boring for children. My wife and I found the visit wonderful and super-interesting. Bruno is able to transmit the passion for the roman history and make you understand how Romans lived back in 79 a.d. I highly recommend him to everybody looking for a great guide for Pompeii or Ercolano.

The best it's to start at 8.00 - 8.30 in a sunny day. The light is magic. The photos are bright. We went by car with thicket bought on line. It's better to start from visiting the theatre area In three hours you can reach after the Foro also Villa dei Mistery, still in restoration today. At one you can park in Naples, via Chiatamone, having a pizza in via Partenope in front of the sea and at 4 you can reach by metro the National Museum coming back after the closeness to get the car in the same way. You can rent the car at the airport or by car sharing.

So vast and awe inspiring is Pompei that you need to plan to wander and discover. While guided tours may be most time effective there is nothing like wandering around yourself, turning a corner and then be awed by what you see. I was like a kid in a candy store. While children and those that having walking challenges can get around, let's face it, the Romans did not build this to accessible. Keep in mind this was a city and horrendous destruction occurred.
