Beautiful castle
Apr 2020
Also known as the Maschio Angioino, I got this info from local people. This Angevin fortress was built for Charles of Anjou in 1279–82.

However, apart from the squat towers and the Cappella Palatina (with Francesco Laurana’s Madonna of 1474 above the portal), most of the structure is Aragonese.
The castle was the main royal residence.

Best regards,

Without a guide, it's not worth it
Sep 2020
Unfortunately, a guided tour was not possible. People inside the venue could not give tours and there was no service available outside for the date we were interested. Entire parts of the structure were blocked for a speech that was supposed to last an hour (but then lasted all morning) . Result? You find yourself paying the ticket price (still the same , of course) and then wandering through a place (certainly very beautiful) along rooms that could tell you much more than they do. Some advice:
-Before you enter (and pay ), ask if there are any areas that are closed maybe just for that day (so you can think about coming back later, if you have the chance)
-Visit the place with a guide

Beautiful castle
Sep 2020
I did not go inside, as I was not so interested in visiting the museum, but the castle is very beautiful, and worth a look on the outside.

Must get the Guided Tour
Sep 2020 • Couples
The guided tour was €14 PP but definitely worth it. Theres alot more you get to see like the dungeons and the roof top terrace for example. We had a great tour guide (Steffani) i think this is how you spell it I could be wrong. She gave good detail about the castle and it’s history.
It was pouring down with rain but still we went to the roof terrace and the views were fantastic. Worth the money and worth checking out.

Do not bother with the 6 euro option
Sep 2020 • Couples
We went for the 1.5hr time slot to wonder round some of the castle ourselves. Were only there 30mins and had seen all we could. The archilogical dig under glass floor was about the only thing worth seeing inside, unless you like a painting gallery.
Maybe look into the more expensive tour options but my understanding of these is you are kicked out straight after it ends

Fun, informative, and very well-structured guided tour to reveal some fascinating history
Jul 2020
Highly recommend the guided tour (I think Francesco was our guide) -- he was very animated and the tour built up to a very powerful and memorable climax in a beautiful room in the castle. This was in Italian, if he does one in English I'm sure it would be great as well (he sprinkled in many English phrases in his Italian tour). The views of the port and city are a huge bonus.

Imposing Castle
Jul 2020
I never visited inside the castle as you needed to make an online reservation. I walked nearby several times during my visit to Naples, and found it a very impressive piece of architecture. There are some excavations taking place next to the castle which should make the visit more interesting once they are completed.

When you visit Napoli, in South Italy, there are a lot of opportunities to see monuments and attractions, I love Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino).

Landmark to be missed at the port of Naples
Sep 2019
Very old castle structure, but cannot be missed if one is sailing into the port of Naples.

Good to be the start or end of a good walk between it and Toledo station (another good visit). Along the way, there are many tourist attractions, shopping and eateries.
