We visited before going to Pompeii and I'm glad we did. It gave us some context for the visit. Most of what is displayed here is from the region. There are artifacts from Egypt but those were also collected by notables from Naples. We spent...More

4 hours was not enough time in this fantastic museum - it would take days to see everything. After our visit to Pompeii & Herculaneum it was very educational to see all the exhibits that were excavated

A huge but well presented collection, perhaps too much to take in with proper attention in a single visit. Particularly liked the small section on the Greek colonies and their relationship with the early Romans, and, of course, the mosaics and murals from Herculaneum and...More

The museum is full of artefacts recovered from Pompeii and Herculaneum some are in amazing condition. I haven’t given it a higher rating because the museum layout was all over the place and didn’t flow well, it jumped from Roman to Egyptian back to Roman...More

When we visited, admission was free, maybe always? Great exhibits, lovely building, worth a visit. From there we headed to the Vomero qtr. using the nearby funiculare which was totally fun

When I visited Pompeii, I was quite upset that so many of the sculptures and fresco's had been removed, but when I visited this museum I immediately understood why. Some of the fresco's are in such pristine condition that it's almost hard to believe they...More

There are a few frescos, statuary and household objects in situ at Pompeii and Herculaneum, but not many. Most have been removed and most of those are now in this museum. I confess that, when we visited the sites, I was upset that so much...More

I was really blown away by the huge marble sculptures that were recovered from Herculaneum and Pompei. I don't remember ever seeing that kind of detail in sculptures from the first century A.D. Also, incredible detail in tiny cameos and my favorite, the mosaics. Just...More

The National museum in Naples contains so many amazing works of art and other artifacts from Pompeii that I'd recommend going here before visiting Pompeii. It's also a great excuse to go into the city and experience the craziness that gives Naples its reputation.

No separate ticket is required to see the “secret cabinet” where those items are displayed. Your admission ticket gives access to all of the exhibits in the museum.

Sorry, just spent 15 minutes doing full reply and got kicked out of site. I love Naples, first time in this museum. I would suggest 2/3 hours to get a taste and then return if you want. My 3rd visit to Naples in a year, any... More
