Amazing experience - strongly adviced

What a wonderful museum.
The venue and the location are beautiful, the tour is very interesting and very well organized.
The locomotives’ history and the way they work is wonderfully explained with augmented reality.
I strongly advice to visit it, also with kids, especially in sunny days, to enjoy the Mediterranean gardens and the view on the Gulf of Naples.
The personnel is very nice and kind.

Amazing museum
Jul 2020 • Family
I took my two young children here and we absolutely loved it! Beautiful, well kept museum. It's very interesting for children and adults. The staff is very nice and accommodating. If you go on Thursday, there's a reduction in ticket price. I highly recommend this museum for anyone visiting Naples or even locals, like us.

Excellent railway museum
Sep 2019
Congratulations to all the staff at this museum what an effort everyone has made to make this such a great venue. The location is fabulous overlooking the Bay of Naples and next to the station. There is a small garden area and places to sit and watch out over the Bay. It does lack a cafe but one is being prepared at the moment. Until it opens there is just vending machines. There is no litter or mess everything is well looked after.
Now to the exhibits. The main building has at least 30 steam locomotives all looking immaculate. I would have preferred to see them in a less restored condition but the staff are to be commended for their painstaking efforts. The other main building has carriages, diesel and electric locomotives. There are further buildings to explore.
Fully enjoyed my visit and would recommend to anyone with an interest in railways.

A stream train lovers delight. The museo has been open approximately 2 years and is well worth a visit. The staff are all enthusiastic and very ready to help/explain Entry charge is 7euros and is closed on Tuesdays. Full access to all the engines and the area is well laid out and the information stands in both Italian and English. Additionally there are early type electric units, carriages and scale models. If your other half is not interested then there are pleasant gardens with views over the sea and bay of Naples. Make sure you get the correct train line out of Naples or Salerno and it will drop you immediately next to the museo

Wonderful visit ! Ottimo !

I came here after a Sunday morning visit to the beautiful Portici Palace nearby. The number 254 Napoli bus which I caught at Portici dropped me a few minutes away from the museum although there is the rail station of San Giorgio a Cremano literally on its doorstep. The combined ticket for the palace and the museum is a very reasonable 9 euros. The museum re-opened only a few years ago and I can fully understand why visitor numbers are increasing.
This is the actual site where the history of the Italian Railway began. The Napoli-Portici route being the first to open. It's a gorgeous setting and a gorgeous museum .
For an extra 1euro you can watch the splendid new Bayard movie on the history of the railway and believe me, it was so entertaining with splendid extra 'bells and whistles' -kids will love it.
The rail related memorabilia on display is so very interesting and the locomotives are splendid .
I loved the fact that whichever' bright spark' composed the individual locomotive descriptions linked them up to Italian films , where the actual locomotives appeared, Grazie ! I'll be endlessly trainspotting now on film.
Kids will have fun on the little mini train which circles the museum grounds and lots of Italian families seemed to be enjoying their Sunday afternoon at Pietrarsa.
Walk up to the statue of Ferdinand the Second and you have spectacular views over the Bay of Naples. The stylish seating area under a canopy is even designed as a passenger waiting room - only in Italy such attention to detail !
Lovely staff too who were so eager to help. Check out their website for opening hours and more detailed information.

It was a great surprise to see a railway museum that is so well kept.
The display is really interesting (although mostly focused on Italian products)
It's very conveniently located next to the train station.
Entrance tickets are also reasonable so it's definitely worth a visit!
