The bustling Plaza de la Virgen that flanks the cathedral was the forum of Roman Valencia. The baroque church of the Virgin of the Abandoned, patron saint of Valencia, overlooks the square. This church because of its slightly inclined position is called 'the hump'.
In the middle of the square, full of cafes and clubs, the fountain representing the Rio Turia while the eight girls with amphorae filled with water symbolize the 8 main canals that branch off from the river to irrigate the surrounding countryside.

It has ancient history this site. It has an irregular shape and is embellished with the fountain of God Turia. Three monuments overlook the square: the palace de la Generalitat, the basilica of the Virgin of the Abandoned and the cathedral.

The spiritual heart and nerve center of Valencia. Surrounded by important historical buildings such as the Cathedral of Valencia and the Basilica of the Virgin of the Desamparados, this square is a place full of life and tradition. It is a perfect meeting point for locals and tourists, offering a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a place that you can not miss in Valencia.

You will inevitably pass the square with the basilica, cathedral and fountain, which has nothing special to offer, when visiting the old town. It is definitely suitable for a break and to observe the hustle and bustle, but then you should sit by the fountain and definitely not support the completely overpriced, bad restaurants/cafés. There are plenty of better alternatives in the side streets.

The big Plaza in front of the Cathedral is also a good place to find something to eat and drink. Sure the places are full of tourists, but some are quite good, and the views of the Plaza are pretty. Other tourist spots very nearby.

First time for us in Valencia we arrived by cruise ship so it is a 20 minute journey by coach to a drop off point by the bridge to the city main gates.
Once inside the area the shop lined street opens up to a huge plaza surrounded by ancient and new buildings all very impressive and immaculate go through again to another huge plaza the city is big and has plenty to see and do, many, many bars, cafes, shops of all types.
The highlight is the Cathedral very old and as history will tell of many styles all wrapped into one building, for the believers possibly the home of the Holy Grail ? From modern sculptures to old fountains its so diverse, good enough for a return visit in the future.

I’d love to hear a story of someone failing to see this marvelous plaza in the beating heart of Valencia—since I think such stories would seldom be told. It’s very difficult to miss this gorgeous area. Flanked by the stunning Valencia Cathedral to the south and pristine residential districts and parks to the north, the Virgin Plaza is the community space that marries all of the city’s wonderful sides together into one.
I spent about an hour people-watching, snapping photos and selfies, and enjoying live local music from skilled street performers. I wish I had time to stay longer. It’s safe, sparkly clean, and well worth your time. Enjoy!

The pavement of this square has remained imprinted in my mind: very shiny... in pink marble.
The square is very large, beautiful, the hub of the city, here is the cathedral, the Palacio del Ajuntamiento, the church of the Virgin of the Abandoned and the fountain of the Turia river.
It stands on the ruins of ancient Roman Valencia, whose remains, abundant and well preserved, can be admired in the underground museum.
The festival that celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring, the festival of fallas, ends in this square.
Here, still today as in the centuries before,
every Thursday the aguas court is held, an important and very ancient legal institution, it seems to be the oldest in Europe, perhaps even in the world. This meeting is located at the Puerta de las Apostoles.
Finally, the fountain of the Turia river, with Neptune in the center and many statues of women representing the various waterways, irrigated by Neptune.
These monuments alone are worth a visit to Valencia.
Here you will also find restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, everything and more

Great place to grab a drink and watch the world to go by, additionally you have a great backdrop of the Basilica, the back of the Cathedral and the fountain. If you are lucky, you will also be entertained by random street performers. You can also sit near the front of the Cathedral, but that tends to be more crowded with families and more commercial place like McDonalds, which ruins the historic atmosphere.

Wonderful square to sit and enjoy a drink, around the side of the cathedral, there is a fountain and also, Real Basílica De Nuestra Señora De Los Desamparados, a small church which just looks like a building from the outside, we saw people going in so we followed. Beautiful inside and unlike the cathedral this is free to enter, there are times up to let you know when mass is on, should you wish to go. After 6pm Street entertainers set up here and there is a lovely atmosphere.

Te has equivocado de persona. Sólo hago referencia a que esta plaza juega un papel importante en Fallas, no hablo de las figuras de la fuente
