Brilliant, so pointy. And if you can solve the maze and get inside, it's fine there too. Much art in unexpected places.

Nicely kept fortress and park grounds, with temporal art expositions. The fort itself would be much more interesting from above, but it is nevertheless a worthwhile visit once in Pamplona.
Right now there is a beautiful exposition from a local artist on the first floor of on the buildings. Free, and pretty amazing for a self-taught artist!

I absolutely adored wandering around the old walls. There were ample signs explaining what visitors were seeing, but many were unfortunately covered by graffiti. I enjoyed seeing the walls so much that I wrote a blog post on them!

Perhaps the best remaining example of C16 military fortification, the Citadel seems to be ignored by many visitors to the city. Situated in a fine green park, the impressive walls and ditches are well worth a visit, and it won't cost you a cent.

This is a classic spot to visit while in Pamplona, the overall size and dimensions were impressive, Sad that progress of the city got in the way of its history. The inside has some interesting trees and birds so birders, bring your binocs! This is considered one of the best made forts in all of Europe! Construction started in the 16th century.

It was really nice to walk along the wall of Pamplona and get a feeling of what it was like in the 16th century. About 3/4 of the wall has been preserved and is one of Spain's most well-preserved structures. You can learn more about the history of this fortification by visiting the Interpretation Centre of the Fortifications of Pamplona. It is open from 11am-2pm, closed for siesta, and reopens from 4pm-7pm, Tuesday-Saturday and 11am-2pm on Sunday. Closed on Monday. Cost is free.

It's huge and part of the fortress was demolished to make space for houses in the 19th century. Together wizh the city wall, it shows the importance of Pamplona in earlier times

Hi,
I would recommend that you spend a couple of days driving around La Rioja and don't miss the many wineyards around that area, especially The Marques de Riscal in Elciego. Also, I would definitively recommend that from pamplona you drive to bilbao, go along the coast to san sebastian (you would need more than a day to do so, so I recommend you spend one day in Bilbao) and from there you drive trough the coast to all the french basque country to end in san juan de luz, one of the most beautiful places I've seen. From there you could drive to cataluna etc.
If you plan to do it to end in portugal, you should then do Cantabria, Asturias and definitively go to Portugal trought galicia. Hope this helps!

We will not be staying at Pamplona, just passing through en route from San Sebastian to Logronos. Is it worth stopping for an hour or so? Would our time be better spent seeing other sights in Pamplona?
What are the opening hours?
How much does it cost for seniors?

The medieval part of Pamplona is small and intimate. An hour’s pushing it, but it’s worth investing half a day in the town. Beautiful, and you won’t get more Spanish
