This monument could almost be mistaken for Winged Victory (without the wings) or Athena, warrior goddess, but this is a real flesh and bones heroine in the mold of Joan of Arc. The spear and the body at her feet are central to her legendary...More

Maria Pita is a hero to the people of Coruña and rightly she has a monument in her honour, a plaza named after her and a public holiday and festival. The statue stirs up images of her awesome fearless deed fighting the invading British.

This is a beautiful square with old traditional buildings. You can just sit there to rest or you can try the restaurants in the square. I tried Pulpera and Norey, very good restaurants for trying the Coruna cuisine.
