This is definitely the biggest collection of Oriental stuff in Spain, with 18 salas putting on display precious artifacts from China, Japan and the Philippines. I was particularly fascinated by the collection from the Philippines ... icons or religious statues made of ivory, wooden "anitos" (deities) from Northern Luzon, native bracelets, weapons, woven and brass products from Mindanao, richly adorned religious manuscripts, and so forth. It's good to know that some of the cultural materials from my country are well-preserved and taken care of even in Spain, thanks to the contact that existed between the Filipinos and the early Spanish missionaries from the 16th century onward. Valladolid in itself is a lovely city, with so much to offer. Do drop by the Museo Oriental when you visit the place. Thumbs up!…

Although the display's are a little dated and have no English titles, this museum has what is called the best collection of Asian art in Spain. Note to independent travelers, not open in the mornings to you, only after lunch. Location in the depths of a religious university is a little difficult to find, but once at the front door of the complex you will be directed to the Museum. Admission fee very reasonable 2.50 Euros, I think. Worth a visit…

This is the third time that my wife and I visit the Oriental Museum. There is much to see here from the Philippines, China and Japan. Many of the treasures that one can see here were donated by people who had collections of oriental art. Many art objects found here are very beautiful.…
