We took the tour of the ferry boat. Most of the people tend to go to the upper floor, where the saw directly and felt the strong wind. We managed to go also to the ground floor where it was warmer and less crowded. The tour took us to the along the coast until the head rock and then returned by the wavy way until we enter the port again. So if you have some two hours spare and would like "an adventure", try this cruse. Highly recommended.

My wife and I went for a ferry round trip across the Santander Bay in mid-October, with stops at Pedreña and Somo. The cost was under 5 euros each. We both sat on the boat's inside deck, and the crossing was quite relaxing. The tide was low, so the sandbanks at the South side of the Santander Bay were quite visible. The boat stopped shortly in Pedreña to drop passengers, then it proceeded to Somo where we did step down and went for a walk to to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Somo and El Puntal beaches. After that, we caught a later boat to return to Santander. If you have the time, consider leaving the boat at Pedreña and Somo and visit the area before catching the next ferry (there is one every 30 minutes). This way you can extend your outing for a few hours for the same price and get to visit those two beautiful villages, and even perhaps having a meal or a drink in one of the local restaurants and bars while enjoying a nice view of the area. Another thing that you could do is leaving the boat in Pedreña and then walk to Somo through the bridge over the Cubas River (about 2 km walk), then catch again in Somo the boat back to Santander (it docks at the end of the breakwater, the side closest to the village of Somo), hopefully after taking the time to visit the village and the beaches of Somo and El Puntal. I would definitely recommend this enjoyable trip and I would also recommend a tour outside Santander Bay, which I have done in the past with my wife but unfortunately this service stops at the end of September so we were unable to do it this time. I will give Los Reginas 4 stars instead of 5 because of the strong smell of diesel in the passenger area inside one of the two boats we rode (an easy fix I hope).

This is a ferry boat, which serves to get workers across the Santander bay, and surfer types to the waves at Pedrena and Somo. It is also a good way for sissies like me to pretend that they could cope with life at sea, as the bay is generally calm. This trip offers the chance to sea the other side of the bay, the home town of the great Seve Ballesteros and vistas of Santander that you wouldn't otherwise see. The boat is small and workaday, the crew are good with the public. The crew let you get up near the front of the boat for photos. Whilst doing so, I noticed the young laddie piloting the boat reading a book, which was both funny and rather alarming. He was at least paying attention for the important bits. Don't be late, or they will blow the horn to get you to hurry the **** up.

We took the ferry (EU 4.9 RETURN) today to the small distruct called Perenda (?) across the way. Simple yet effective ferry with a very jovial boatman. No big queue, just a hop on hop off. Very popular with locals on a day like today (nice sun and light breeze). Delivers you to 50m from El Tronky restaurant. Perfect.

For just under five Euros for a return ticket, taking you from Santander across the bay to Pedrena and Somo and back again, you can't knock this. Situated just outside the Santander Bank, the ferry runs every half hour, and you can get back to town reasonably late. There was a lovely lady in the little booking office who didn't mind my awful Spanish and proved very helpful. They also run tour excursions out and around the bay, which are conducted in Spanish. A pleasant alternative to taking the main road all the way around the bay from the city to the quaint villages and beaches the other side. Highly recommended.
