There aren’t many places that gather as many areas of interest for the cultural and natural heritage of Lanzarote as Cueva de los Verdes, a unique mythological-looking cave, full of legends and extraordinary landscape and beauty. It came about after the eruption of the Volcán de la Corona, and it’s one of the most impressive hidden wonders in the depths of Lanzarote. It was used as a hideout by the locals who needed shelter to protect themselves from invasions and attacks of pirates coming from the north of Africa during the 16th and 17th Centuries. In the 19th Century, it became a must for travellers, experts and European scientists due to the uniqueness of this volcanic territory, named after a family that kept their cattle in the area, the story goes

The visit could be great if you avoid the blond guide girl. Indeed, she doesn't care about you, start (and end) explanations even if everyone isn t ready. She think to end the visit as fast as possible (to drink her mojito maybe ??). She...More

We came here despite being put off by other reviews saying to stay away with young children. My 11 month old was carried in a back baby carrier (Osprey Poco) and my husband managed the whole thing with only some stooping. It was all doable....More

We visited the caves as a group of 13 24-year olds and whilst they were quite cool to see, they also weren’t anything amazing. Worth seeing if you’re nearby, but we travelled 45 minutes to visit, and I wouldn’t say they were worth it.

Unfortunately this seemed expensive for what it was and not that interesting. Children were bored and have to say I was too!

Well it could have been if you had gone deep enough. This is a 45 min trip that is well worth the effort and ducking through tunnels. (keep your head down when told, it hurts if you don't). Do also wear sensible footwear.

Hello Virginie1461, If you want to go by public bus, you have to take first from Puerto del Carmen to Arrecife and then from Arrecife to Orzola. It stops in Jameos del Agua. The distance from Jameos to Cueva de los Verdes... More
