It is a huge square by one side The Opera House, Zwinger and the other side ismthe beginning of Royal Palace. Lot of historical but of course reconstructed buildings because of WW II where you can take some nice photos.

Statute of King John on a horse is a famous Dresden meeting place. Not much to do here but a classic sight.

Standing here one can see the historical core and monuments of the city all around. Unfortunately there were heavy renovation underway during my visit and part of the nice view was barred. Still worth to visit.

Walking to the Gemaldegalerie, my wife taking pictures kept looking around and said "it just gets worse every time I turn around" (commenting sarcastically that each view keeps getting better than the last).

Rick Steves' guidebook suggests this square as the starting point for a walking tour of Old Town Dresden. It is that indeed; it is a large plaza. Facing you is the grand Semper Opera House. Turn around and you see the Hofkirche with its green...More

This is nice to see during the day, but we thought it looked even better all lit up at night. Recommend.
