This castle was originally constructed to protect the town from Vikings. Its a medium size castle next to the river and makes for an interesting visit and a quick review of the over 1000 years of history of this place.
Broich Castle dates back to about 883 and was originally built to protect the town from invasion by the Normans. It's the oldest Carolingian fortification in German-speaking Europe and very well preserved. A must-visit if you're in Muelheim.
