Unfortunately all there is to see, you have to watch from behind the gate. So for me this makes it a little less special. The church itself we wanted to visit to, but it was closed at that time.

Dating back to the Middle Ages, Old St. Albans was one of Cologne's oldest churches. All that is left now are the ruins. "The Mourning Parents" statues date back to 1953, commemorating the fallen lives of both World Wars.

This ruined church evidently had a long history before its destruction during world War II. As in many cities, Cologne decided to leave a prominent church in a ruined status as a memorial to the sadness caused by war. There is a moving Kathe Kollwitz...More
