The open air gondola cabs are a lot of fun as you traverse the vast vineyard. It doesn't look like you are climbing very high but once you reach the monument you have a stellar view of the Rhine valley and the hills beyond. The...More

Starts with a tram ride over the vineyards to the top of the hill where the statue is. Excellent views of the river and Rhine valley.

Niederwald Monument watches over Rudesheim and the Rhein like a historical blanket; the hike to the top can be done in 45 minutes through rolling vineyards. If not up for a hike, take the magical Seilbahn. The views are spectacular. Check your WWI history and...More

This is a monument in commemoration of the first time the German people came together as a nation after the Franco-Prussian War. You can get to the monument on a gondola ride which provides a wonderful view of the valley and the vineyards.

We enjoyed this as an outdoor activity (very welcome after many hours in museums and such) and for the lovely views. It was great to stretch our legs on a warm, sunny afternoon. It would be "less great" on a cloudy or cold day.

The gondolien is indeed for two Persons but it is comfortable. We visited the place outside the peak tourist season and did not need to queuing for the ticket office. July might be different. Better to reserve time for that... More
