If you’re in Hamburg you have to visit this museum, you have to see German Romanticism, but take a map because the place is really big and full of things to see.

This is one of the largest collections in Germany. Great Dutch school collection, including an early Rembrandt. Don't miss this museum if you are in Hamburg.

Excellent collection of Northern German medieval art and romantic paintings. Two small Rembrandts. Juxtaposed with modern art in a well-lit building.

The Kunsthalle has a superb collection - especially the early medieval pictures. It does flag rather when you reach the 18th century, and the arrangement is rather quirky in places. Best to select carefully what you wish to see

We spent a wonderful afternoon here, going on a journey of 700yrs of art history. My favourite German artist Caspar David Friedrich has an entire room dedicated to him. I was in heaven!

Ths building of the gallery itself is quite interesting. Contemporary exhibitions may be impressive. However, I would recommend visiting if you are interested in German, Dutch, Flemish, Italian, and French drawings and paintings of a certain period.
