This is one of the best museums I’ve seen and it is free. Gives you a great picture of life in East Germany under Communism with displays of actual rooms, the car camping set up, and lots more. The building itself is pretty cool, too,...More

We were excited to enter this museum to learn more about life in East Berlin/East Germany. Unfortunately, most of the captions and explanations were in German, so while this museum may have been quite meaningful to Germans, it was difficult to follow as a foreigner...More

Well designed and laid out. The best museum in Berlin and it's free and away from the tourists. The staff were excellent. Very surprised to stumble across such a good museum as it doesn't seem to be advertised as much as the other bigger museums,

Very nice surprise. Explains the life of people in East Germany, how the modernity from the 50’s to the 80’s also came to this country, just differently. With many real objects taken from normal life, the museum shows what it mean to every days’ life...More

This museum and the Eastside Gallery are the best of the bunch. You only need to see these two and you have the full picture. It is beautifully set out and follows a similar theme to the DDR museum but much, much better and it...More

Almost as good as the DDR museum and it's free. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're nearby. The whole kulturbrauerei is a very nice site to visit too.

Gives you a good overview of life in the ddr. Free entry and less commercial than the DDR museum. Well worth a visit.

A small (and free) exhibition about the DDR, which is much better than the tacky one in Mitte. The area is well worth a stroll around too.

We spent an hour and a half here one evening before dinner. Located in old brewing factory complex filled with stores, restaurants and concert halls, the museum sits in the north east corner. Great displays and information on DDR life, including films, exhibits and artifacts.

This is an interesting museum delving into the life of people in East Germany. The exhibits are mostly in German, some of the video has English subtitles. Worth a visit if you are in the Prenzlauerberg Area.

No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change
than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists
that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in
the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip
crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were
once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall,
there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have
been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays,
