The site of the Nazi bookburning on May 10, 1933 now houses a memorial to that event: a below-ground room lined with empty bookcases, which you see through a window set in the pavement.

A historical place, when a lot of important historical facts happened, as the book burning related to the start of political facts of second world war

Unfortunately, the window into the installation of books to commemorate the awful book burnings was really dirty and we couldn't see it :( Overall though it was very sobering to visit this place and have a feel for the monstrosities that were carried out here....

I never even thought much about these burnings, until our guide talked about them, and we looked down inside. Wonderful tribute.

In the middle of the Bebelplatz is a small chamber, built right into the ground. A clear plexiglass covers it and inside you see empty white shelves...shelves that can hold 20,000 books. The number the Nazi’s burned in this courtyard. It’s a chilling reminder of...More

This is the location of some of the Berlin book burning parades of the national socialist era Worth stopping to pay respects as you wouldn’t know from the current conditions

At first glance you don't notice the square so much as the buildings around it, because they are beautiful, historical and have fantastic details like statues. The church in the corner is particularly stunning. There is a Christmas market just past the church which is...More

The site of the Nazi book burning. The square is lovely with beautiful buildings with a sunken monument of empty bookshelves. Well worth a visit and a tasteful reminder of the horrors of Nazi rule.

Nice historic square in the center of the city. I think here Hitler burned several thousand volumes of books from the neighboring library after coming into power.

We found the memorial when we saw a large group standing in the square. It’s not well marked but has a stark simplicity. Since it’s near other sites it’s worth the short detour to savor the impact of book burnings in a square housing an...More

The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum

city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
