Great buildings and a nice place to walk for a while. Spend time contemplating the architecture and the surroundings. Other than that not much to do.

Bebelplatz is a historic open square near Humboldt University. Its significance is it was the site of the first book burning. A hole in the ground covered with plexiglass and a brass plaque mark this site. The plexiglass covers an empty room with bookshelves that...More

Like many squares in Berlin this has no soul. It is a bunch of flat rocks. No shade, no cafes. Why would you want to be here?

Unfortunately, the window into the installation of books to commemorate the awful book burnings was really dirty and we couldn't see it :( Overall though it was very sobering to visit this place and have a feel for the monstrosities that were carried out here....

I never even thought much about these burnings, until our guide talked about them, and we looked down inside. Wonderful tribute.

Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
