A small laboratory located in the former Physical Institute of the University of Wurzburg, now the University of Applied Sciences Wurzburg, was the sight of one of the most important scientific breakthroughs in medical history. On November 8th, 1895, Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen discovered a new kind of ray, which he called X-rays. Opened in 1985, this historic site honors W.C. Rontgen and his discovery, while providing an insight into physics of the late 19th century.

We visited the Roentgen Museum on the advice of a friend of ours. It was naturally of interest to us as we are both retired radiographers but the historical significance should interest most people. Wilhelm Roentgen himself first discovered x-rays and the laboratory where he...More

This is a very special museum which is not so well known in Wurzburg. You have to enter the college for applied sciences Wurzburg-Schweinfurt from the Röntgenring 8. Former the building has been the Institute of Physics of the University of Wurzburg where Wilhelm Conrad...More

This well-hidden museum is a gem on many levels - 1) it shows the actual lab where one of the most important discoveries occurred; 2) many of the equipment on display are fascinating and well-displayed; 3) it is unattended and relaxing to browse and 4)...More

X-rays were part of my life onetime and I found the small museum interesting. It was self guided but well laid out and described in both German and English. Probably not for everyone but this man made a life and world changing discovery!

Located in what feels like a part of the university, you walk in and you're in a small hallway with study rooms all around. It is fantastic that Röntgens original laboratory is in a building still very much in use. When we were there we...More
