When we arrived by train a few days ago this was our first sight of the old city wall and what was to come. These gateways that lead you into this amazing city sure could tell some tales and each one is different.Fantastic construction.

As we arrived from the train station, Rodertor should be the first gate we have passed by prior to entering the walled town of Rothenburg. You could climbed up the stairs and walked on top of the wall to view the surrounding moat around the...More

I lost count of the number of gates into and out of this walled town. All of them slightly different and all with their own unique style. Fascinating to see so many double gates as they obviously expanded the town as it grew in stature.

this is one of the gates at the far end of the town but well worth the walk to see this part of the walls as its so different and imagine it in days gone by

Excellent example of early defense structure. This one is worth taking a look at. It is very inspiring to look up at these massive structures and imagine all the history that occurred around them. Well worth a look.

Another one of the many neat gates in the wall around the old town. We used the access stairs to the wall here to go up to walk the wall. The gate has a neat timbered structure above it that is very photographic. Use Rodergasse...More

This is the main gate to the city / village, and when you go through you get this uncanny sense you have gone back in time. Be careful of cars though as it is not simply for pedestrians. Beautiful piece of architecture.

Walk through to enter the old city of Rothenburg. As you enter through the gate you feel as if you are stepping back in time. Go straight ahead up the hill to the main square of the town or head off to the right and...More
