Sightseeing with ferry service. No commentary in English only in German. Scenery is beautiful. A small shop with drinks and snacks for the hungry.

We just visited the castle. And then came down to the lake. We loved this ride around the water. Good views -- snacks on board if you wanted, etc. There's also a cafe type restaurant right there -- so as you wait -- you can have a bite on land. Not bad! Very scenic. Offers stops to get off along the way, too. Trails etc await if you want. Recommended length below is for the ride itself. You can spend a lot more time just bumming around the lake taking in the fresh air and quiet.

My wife and I take at least one trip a year on the Forgensee. We normally go on the 2 hour trip and in the past we took all our children. It was extremely helpful that they all got a free trip as we buy the summer activity booklets for those who live in Füssen. There are two ships, the largest is the MV Füssen and this plys the 12 kilometre long,3 kilometre wide Forgansee 3 times daily at 1000hrs,1230hrs & 1500hrs departing from the boathouse in Füssen. The smaller ship is the MV Allgäu which has a shorter route lasting 1 hour. This leaves the boathouse in Füssen at 1030hrs,1150hrs,1320hrs,1440hrs & 1600hrs.The bigger route stops at the Festspielhaus,Waltenhofen(Schwangau),Brunnen(Schwangau),Osterreinen(Rieden),Dietringen(Reiden),Tiefental(Roßhaupten) & Kraftwerk(Roßhaupten) where it turns back towards Füssen and visits all the stops on the way back. The smaller route only goes to Osterreinen(Rieden) before returning via the Festspielhaus to Füssen Boathouse. You can buy drinks and small snacks on board and we have always found the staff very polite and helpful.
The Forgansee itself is manmade and was built to stop flooding due to the snow melt on the mountains at the end of winter. It was built in the 1950's.The ships normally run from June till the middle of October. However in 2018 they will not be able to run in June due to urgent repair work on the dam at Roßhaupten. When the service does return visitors will be able to take in the stunning views of Sauling,Tegelberg and the two castles,Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. At the other end of the lake can be found the dam.During winter the lake is emptied. This really is a pleasant way to relax and one can only say-"Time flew past so quickly" as you alite from the ship.Prices are reasonable. They also have special evening trips which can be booked in advance.

We had a lovely time, relaxing on the boat as it took us around all parts of the lake on a two hour trip. The scenery was stunning as we made our way long and it was a lovely way to relax after the rush of doing the castle tours, and seeing Marienbrucke, the previous day.

This was a great way to end the day after visiting the Castle. The ferry terminal ("boat harbor") is a little off the beaten path and a walk from where the bus (which we took back to town from the Castle) drops you off. The trip is very popular with both tourists and locals as the ship circumnavigates Lake Forggensee, taking about two hours for the longer version. (There is a shorter one but we took the longer one.) The scenery is gorgeous. Have a beer (what else?) and a snack and sit back and enjoy the scenery. The trip runs June 1 to October 15. We were on the larger MS Fussen which departs from the boat harbor on a set schedule. Get there a little early as the passengers line up for boarding well before departure. The ship is handicapped friendly. Tickets are collected as you board. Heartily recommend this journey.

Love the views- I could sit on the lake for a long time and just watch the beautiful view. We sought this place out to relax and unwind and so glad we did.

After spending the whole morning walking around in order to visit the castles, we decided to take the long tour ( 2 hours ). It was a good choice, as we had a great time enjoying the views and recovering from the long walk. Besides, it was a free activity included in the Königscard, which was given to us in our rented house.

Our ride was about 50 minutes, and was very nice! Really beautiful lake with a unique color and stunning views of the nearby castles. We really enjoyed!

Enjoyed my visit at Füssen. Spent the time wandering around the town and recommended to go Hopfen Am See to enjoy the spectacular scenery. If have time can take the Füssen Ferry to take either an hour or 2 hour ferry ride. From the ferry you can see both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles.

As previously described, 2 possiblilties for a boat on Forggensee, 50 minutes or 2 hours - I've done both at different times. A bigger boat for the 2 hour journey with hot and cold foods and drinks available on board and plenty of space (although I did go outside of what were probably busy weekends). The longer journey trips all round the lake and for the money is great value. Got a small discount with a Fussen Guest card. Highly recommended.
