We recently passed by Königsplatz and enjoyed viewing the Propylaea, a grand city gate structure that was built by German architect, Leo von Klenze by order of King Ludwig I between 1854-1862. The structure was a memorial in honour of his son Otto's accession to...More

Strangely, in all my trips to Muich, I never visited the Propylaea, a city gate located at the west side of Königsplatz. Constructed in 1862, the gate was created as a memorial for the accession to the throne of Otto of Greece, a son of...More

This is a remarkable price of architecture flanked by two large structures. Plenty written about this but my take was to simply to take a good photograph for posterity. I can say in the future I walked near the epicentre of Nazi History, complete with...More

Entering in to the Kunstareal of Munich and especially the Königsplatz in Maxvorstadt from the west this great monument raises your expectations for what lies beyond.

This place is not as famous as other places in Munich but brings with it memories about ancient history. Great buildings and gardens. We ate our snacks in this area and the weather was good. Recommeded to passby.

Very impressive gate and the square just behind it with other neoclassical masterpieces like Glyptothek and State Museum of Classical Art. Pure beauty with the flavour of past times. One of the most must-see places in Munich located 1.28 km north-west from the city centre.

Everybody who is visiting the museums on Königsplatz see this monument. Most probably very few know, that this is an alone standing monument, and not part of the museums. I. Luwig king let it build.
