The photos do not do justice to this incredible monastery. With such easy access via city bus barely ten minutes from downtown Ulm, this is a fantastic excursion for anyone interested in history and/or religion. We organized a very affordable guided tour, and had a delightful experience. Many thanks to Kloster Wiblingen for the excellent communication and service, along with the delightful woman who led us through the beauty and storied past of this hidden gem.

I’m not sure which location felt more sacred, the library or the church. Both were impressively beautiful & awe inspiring.

Curiousity brought me here. I saw the photo of the library from others review and told myself I must visit this place. Well, here I am. I am floored. The most beautiful library I have ever seen. It is small in scale but such an intricate opulent design. This is an easy day trip from Munich for me by train as I do not drive. I explored Fisherman's quarter and took bus number 4 and stopped at Pranger, a short walk you are there. It is not so crowded like the other museums I have been to Berlin or Munich, almost having the place to yourself. The staff are friendly and quick response via emails. You can get an audio guide in English for a small fee for only for the library. The rest of the exhibit are in German unfortunately. But it's alright. Oh better get some small change for the bus if you are relying on public transport.

Personally, I would advise those on a European holiday to skip Versailles, the Vatican and visit Wiblingen instead. To my mind, the monastery's library is the most beautiful in the world, just edging Austria's Admont. This is Rococo architecture at its very best. You have to prebook Versailles, the Vatican and share it with the multitudes. In Wiblingen you just rock up and with a bit of luck you have the place to yourseslf. It is hard to believe that hidden gems of this magnitude remain. A bonus is the helpful, personable staff (Mmes Pfaff and Krinke). Easily six out of five stars.

This is a hidden gem, easily approachable by a bus from HBF.
It is pretty deserted, and so you really enjoy watching it closely.
Its a beautiful church. Some other parts were closed for renovation.

Small interactive Museum, audio-guide available, but the most interesting part is the outstanding library. Classicistic pilgrimage church, interesting cultural events like concerts. Most parts of the monastery are part of the university of Ulm today (medical education)

The most beautiful church and library I have seen. Cost 5 euro to enter the library and see interactive museum. Very nice.

The place was almost entirely deserted so we got to enjoy the grounds and beautiful cathedral in peace and quiet. A nice place to visit to get away from the busy city of Ulm.

We were going to attend concert at the courtyard of Kloster Wiblingen but we also wanted to see the museum, library and church, so we took a bus there in the morning. Less than 15 minutes bus ride there and it included to Ulm card as did the entrance fee. Unfortunately the museum was only in German. Audio guides for library were available in English so we could enjoy the information of the art. The church was also very beautiful.

This was a bust for us. The museum tour is only offered in German, so that was off the table. That left just wandering around. The church was elaborate and quite beautiful.

Gabi I am interested in what you did when you visited Wiblingen Abbey? I am writing an article about it and I haven't been there. What was the highlight of the visit? Was it all in German? Do you remember if you had to wait when you vsited? Can you tell me about the experience, any details really helpful. Did you go with a family group?
What should someone who is visiting Wiblingen know in advance?
thanks

The bus line 3 drives this route. You can get in at the main station (Hauptbahnhof) or Ehinger Tor. The bus has to display ´Wiblingen (Alte Siedlung), because the other 3 drives to the university. Plan a 10-15-minute-ride. The ticket costs ca. 2,20e, and you get a discount buying a daily- or group-ticket. From Pranger to the Klosterhof you`ll need a 5-minute-walk. The actual bus plan can be downloaded from the SWU homepage, Nahverkehr (listed by the bus lines).
Have fun there, it`s a beautiful place.

There is a Joan Baez concert being held there in July. Would be a good venue for a concert?
