This is a fabulous museum with an impressive collection of mosaics. Right outside, the ruins are clearly visible (although, some labelling in English would be helpful). The cafe is pricey, but you're very close to Lyon so it's not a must.

A superb museum and an extensive archeological site across the river from Vienne itself, revealing what must have been the Beverly Hills of ancient Roman Vienne. We spent an entire day exploring the museum and the ruined streets, mansions and baths, and will certainly go...More

An outstanding Gallo-Roman site in a relatively good state of preservation. The highlight is the excellent museum which has a remarkable number of exhibits the most important of which are the mosaics. Well worth a detour off the North/South A7 motorway. The free audio guide...More

Superb museum and excavation. Billed as a 'little Pompeii' for it's fantastic preservation. Having worked at Pompeii I can agree that some of the preservation, mosaics and artefacts are as good - but the extent is not the same as Pompeii. Here in Vienne there...More

This museum is fabulous, complete with the Roman ruins (homes, baths, commercial warehouses) that can be visited outside and in situ, plus an incredible indoor museum. The museum has an incredible collection of Roman mosaics and a great audiotour.

This very modern museum spans portions of the old ruins of a huge Roman Settlement along the Rhone across the river from Vienne. From what we can glean, the site was uncovered when the new high school was under construction. This area of the Rhone...More
