About
Just 10 minutes’ drive from Annecy in the French Haute-Savoie, Domaine de Montrottier is a fairytale castle. Its rooms are home to a treasure trove of curiosities – a unique collection of weapons, Asian finery and ceramics. The gardens play host to a delightful, theme-led and interactive walk, which offers an introduction to the estate’s former residents: spies, ambassadors or noble ladies…in short, Montrottier provides a wonderful journey back in time, across changing fashions and cultural traditions.

At only a few miles from Annecy, in the Alps, the visit to this medieval castle is a really great way to spend an afternoon. This castle is family-friendly and guides are really good with kids while staying interesting for adults. The cabinet of curiosity is a must-see with artifacts from all around the world, notably some Asian katana brought by former owners, like the family of Menthon, a noble family of Savoie.

In short, the Chateau de Montrottier is a truly good place to visit, even more so in summer's hottest days.

Nice castle to visit. The information is given either by tour guides or via voice terminals in French or English.

The surrounding is a big green field, nothing special by design as the latest resident of the castle asked to keep the property as authentic as it was in 1916 when Léon Marres passed away.

It’s worth a 1-hour visit.

Nice, well preserved/refurbished Chateau with some nice rooms of historical artifacts. Do take the short guided tour of the 2 private rooms (in French w/ English Handout). One has weapons and the other Asian curiosities.

The chateau is very beautiful. There is greenery all around. A lot of things and rooms to see inside. Entry is about 8 euros and kids enjoy it. It’s close to gorge du Fier and both can be visited together. There is a small cafe as well nearby which is ok. There is parking nearby as well.

If you like medieval castles, this is a nice place to visit. Beautiful outside and a lot of different kinds of rooms to visit inside. You can take a guiding folder from the entrance and walk through the castle rooms by yourself learning about the castles history. There is a lot of artifacts from different eras. I mean a lot.

My husband and I just decided to visit after many trips to Annecy. Lovely journey there and we had a super afternoon.

This is a very quirky castle, with lots of unusual collections to see. It is set in a beautiful location and we were there on a glorious day, to take full advantage of the grounds.

The two collections in the Tour Des Réligieuses were extremely interesting and I loved the fact that they had not been touched in any way for over 100 years.

The staff were very friendly and we would certainly recommend a visit to this very different and original castle.

We visited with our 7 years old son, there was a fun activity for the kids to locate some items in the chateau.Don't miss going up the tower, although it is challenging.

we loved it...except we think we got ripped off by the entry price. Do check before paying. fantastic English tour, no need to book. It was very quiet when we were there, after the tour we wandered around in peace, tried on medieval costumes, had a mock sword fight, it was so fun. The gardens are lovely too. The toilets were very clean. A small shop. Just don't get ripped off and pay more than you need to!! check website for entry fees.

Its a bit of a walk to the top but well worth the climb. Take a look at the gardens. We were there on a beautiful sunny day so it looked fantastic.
