This was our 2nd visit to Aix. First time was a tour from a cruise ship, and this time we were exploring on our own. We got a map from the TI office (very helpful) and started following the suggested walk. But, we found ourselves...More

In an old town, with numerous cafes, boutiques, and being in May, not very crowded. We spent 4-5 hours walking around, weather was perfect, we had good walking shoes. Worth the time and the blisters.

It was lovely to stroll through the streets of the old town, steeped in so much history. Some lovely little restaurants tucked away as well as cafes where you can sit and watch the passing parade.

A provencal village with buildings painting in sunny colours to match the almost constant sunshine, it is no wonder that painter Cézanne felt inspired here. Be sure to go on a treasure hunt to find the city's elaborate fountains and squares.

It is a fairly large area with many historical buildings and the city's town hall. They had a small food market when we were there. I understand there are larger markets during the week. There are many restaurants to chose from. Equally, you can shop...More

The old city is absolutely a delight. It has a romance and charm that entrances.. The narrow, winding streets, largely pedestrian only, with museums and churches and shops and restaurants interspersed is my idea of a city! I can imagine that it could be a...More

I'm so glad we decided to visit Aix in April - it must be hot and crowded in high summer. Make sure you download the excellent map and guide from the Aix tourist information website before you go, and just take whatever route takes your...More

Vieil Aix has everything you'd expect in a city in the south of France- small winding streets you can get lost in, pedestrian only streets, cobble streets, fountains everywhere, lots of French bakeries, small provençial marchés (markets), flower markets, friendly people.... You can't miss this!...More

The center-ville should not be missed. What can I say? This place is magic, absolutely magic. That said, I was surprised that on a Weds in early March the place was swarming with tourists. I can’t imagine what its like during the summer.

You will have enough time to wander around and see all the fountains ("blue route") and squares (maroon locations). I guess the one by Mairie d'Aix-en-Provence should not be missed. Just google aix V-plan-guide-uk Train... More
