Wandering around the old street of any French town is a treat in itself, but doing so in Aix is especially wonderful. Around each turn there's another architectural wonder, another market place or another charming square with a place to eat/relax. While a city, the old city of Aix is nearly impossible to get lost in...you'll eventually emerge into the "new" area and know that you've reach the limits of the old city.
Take your time, enjoy the everyday scenes that happen around you. The history is amazing, but the common place events are fascinating too!

Lovely part of the city to walk around and experience. Lots of nice old buildings, restaurants, markets and shops. And don’t forget to buy an ice cream

Had an enjoyable time walking around the old town of Aix-en-Provence. Nice old buildings with cobblestone paths cramped with shops & cafes.

We picked up a map from the tourist information which included a self-guided walking tour of the fountains on the city. A great way to get a feel for the place

One of those amazing old towns to walk around and see the sights, this is one of those places to explore have a coffee and buy some of the local products of Provence.
Probably good for a hald day, or a full day if you also have lunch. This city might have the most fountains I have ever seen,

Vieil Aix is a fascinating place. The "Old Aix" is a beautiful area. We walked around the streets observing, looking, enjoying everything there was on offer. There are wide and some narrow streets, shops, cafes, restaurants, patisseries, bread shops, and other types of shops, fountains, sculptures and more. And the architecture of the buildings is also worth the trip.

The Vieil Aix ( literally old City of Aix en Provence) , is a unique place to visit. offers you a old Roman/French/Provencal city. with old building going as far a 15th century.. even though there are some roman underground to see. fontaines everywhere are like signature of the city. Strongly recommand.

Good place to get a good photo although you will have to compete with plenty of other tourists. Plenty of history on show.

You will have enough time to wander around and see all the fountains ("blue route") and squares (maroon locations). I guess the one by Mairie d'Aix-en-Provence should not be missed.
Just google aix V-plan-guide-uk
Train from Marsilles proved to be a rather easy option.
