Originally this was the entrance from the harbour to the old town itself and well worth walking around the area and taking a few pictures of the arch and clock tower. Don't be put off by the beggars as this is now what you find...More

This is the hub of the city. Good restaurants and close to most tourist spots. Walk around the harbour or just sit a while and watch the world.

It is true what some here say about the beggars and dogs under the arches, however, they are all over France these days and it is actually quite safe, even at night.. What one should mention, however, as i have not seen it mentioned elsewhere,...More

Had read about this prior to our visit to La Rochelle and made it top of our things to do. The structure itself is excellent and well worth a photo. The problem is the beggars / vagrants gathered under the arch and the associated aromas....More

The clock on the tower is one of the town landmarks, with the tower serving as a long-time entrance to the old town. There are many restaurants and street performers along the quai, so it attracts a lot of people on a nice summer evening....More

This old building with its large arch-way separates the touristy yacht basins from the (mostly) pedestrian shopping district. The building itself is nice to look at from the harbor side and at the right angle you can see the statue through the arch. Otherwise it's...More

Right on the water, it would be hard to miss this clock tower. If you're on the lookout for great pictures, then definitely build out some time for photos. Right across is a great shop (Conserverie la bel-iloise) with canned tuna, sardines, and mackeral at...More

Very nice gateway to the shopping area. It had two life size puppets dangling in the air in front of it and I'm not really sure what that was all about. The building did look wonderful when lit up later in the evening and a...More

This is not a destination as such as there's only the building itself to see. It was the original gateway from the old harbour into town and is certainly impressive. There are numerous shops and cafes nearby and through the arch. I tried to imagine...More

Gateway to a labyrinth of pedestrianised streets. Lots of shops and restaurants around and worth a pleasant stroll around.
