On a par with any other of the great northern french gothic cathedrals, but empty!!! Staggeringly beautiful inside and out, and with no crowds or tatty tourist shops or medal machines. And the medieval portion of Laon is a delight too. Well worth a visit.

I have visited here many times and it never fails to show me something different. Lovely inside a joy to see.

Staying near Reims we picked today almost randomly to visit the lovely medieval hill town of Laon. When we entered the Cathedral we saw that preparations were underway for a service of some kind and when we reached the altar we saw the telltale signs...More

Beautiful cathedral in a beautiful town. Not as big as anything in Paris but the animal gargoyles on the outside made it different.

The Cathedral is indeed a must see. The spacious interior is magnificent, beautiful side chapels and amazing light. The towers are fantastic, and like the Cathedral in my home City of Lincoln, England, are visible from miles away because of it's hilltop situation.

Not too busy in September. Beautiful light inside. If you get a chance to climb up the tower the view is fabulous right over the Loannois country to Chemin des Dames and south.

Trailing behind tourist groups following a flag-wielding interperator is always fun in foreign climes. I think what was discussed with historic passion was that the cathedral's four storey internal elevation marks a transition from the thick-walled Romanesque architecture to the thin walled vertically of Gothic....More

Well worth a look if you are in old town Laon I am not religious at all but the sheer scale of the building for the time it was built is amazing, it really does bake you think how they did it. The internal ceilings...More

Beautiful cathedral located in the centre of the old town, on a hill. Beautifully maintained. Not that much to do in the village itself, but the cathedral and the walls make it worth a visit if you're passing by.

When in Laon we didn't go to Reims. From what I know the cathedral and the champagne cellars are the musts of the area.
