Beautiful building, fabulous collections - mostly in French with a little English - the scientist in me really enjoyed it and so did the others as adults, not sure how successful a visit it would be with small children- the temp exhibition also very good with lots for kids to do
I’m on crutches and use a mobility scooter - staff were very helpful providing lift access, access was free for me and my companion and under 18s is €2 - so great value
Some of the exhibitions are at counter level and can’t be viewed from a chair but the staff provide walkers with built in seat for those who need it
Really worth a visit

This former chateau des ducs de Bretagne, 13th century castle, contains a broad spectrum of objects depicting life in Nantes over eight centuries. It’s place on the Loire river connecting its residents to the world including a European slave trading century. There is access to all floors via an elevator as this museum is very vertical. Each “theme” room has its own interesting story to tell a you climb higher and higher in this castle.

Entry was only €5 per person and was well worth it, there are many different exhibitions focusing on nature - I especially enjoyed the mythical creatures exhibition which was great!

We were staying nearby so added this to our trip. Well worth it. Its a beautiful building with a small garden. A good selection of exhibits, especially geological, but also many preserved animals and specimens and live snakes. It's well laid out and when we went there was an excellent temporary exhibition on marine life and diving. Its is not a large museum but it is worth visiting, an educational and interesting way to spend 2 hours away from the hustle and bustle.

Such a fantastic experience.
If there were one museum you chose to visit in nantes let it be this one. This museum is superior to other natural history museums in other countries, small but quality collection. I can not recommend it enough, plus the staff were so so friendly. Enjoy:)

As opposed to many of the other galleries/museums/exhibitions of Nantes, this felt more 'manageable'. It's big enough, and fascinating, but doesn't feel overwhelming.

I've been to some big ones (London, DC) and this is smaller but absolutely excellent. The bird collection is the best I've ever seen but so are the temporary exhibits.

People in this Museum were clever enough to build on their nice building and keep their classical interior. The result is a "old-fashioned" Museum without all the (most of the time) superfluous technology. A real pleasure supported by beautiful specimens. This being said, the temporary exhibition was high tech. A nice mix.

Good for the kids small museum and the kids like the snakes which are curled up and asleep. The staff are miserable and make u wait stating it is busy. We were the only family waiting. Bizarre. There is no coffee shop and nothing nearby to have a drink ,when we visited on a Sunday. The main hall is full of stuffed animals and birds from à by gone era.

Not big but pretty cool museum. It has all kinds of rocks, stuffed animals, live snakes, fossils, shells, birds, etc.... Our kids (and we) really enjoyed it. It's also free for kids and a very small price for adults.
