This was a nice way to break up our Versailles gardens afternoon a little. We took a nice rowboat ride in the canal and grabbed lunch at a place right next to the water.

We have seen the grand canal in the movies and we were not sure what to expect. We could believe have busy it was on the water but besides that your mind is blown by how Venice was built and why.

Indeed the standout feature of the Versailles Garden. A massive man-made canal/lake surrounded by perfectly aligned trees with plenty of recreational activities on offer

Expansive man made lake that allows opportunities for recreation like biking and boat rentals. little places to eat near by and great views of the palace.

No fountain display though unless it's on the days they charge extra. Check the website for exact days. The place is so big so be papered to take rest stop.

On the map of Versailles, it looks closer than it is. The canal is really massive. You can hire boats and cycles from here. Hire a golf cart for €34 an hour. Don't forget your drivers licence

I cannot say on the canal tickets for Versailles. As for the fountains: the times (I was told) vary by season. We did not see them on our visit. On a return visit I would skip the palace and just tour the grounds, especially... More
