This little area was just amazing. I am glad that it is maintained. I could see why it would have been loved. You did feel worlds away and now with the busy city just outside the gates I think it still fulfills some of its...More

It is one of the highlights of a trip to Versailles for me to see the hamlet that Marie Antoinette had built. Quite an odd scenario for a queen such as her to want to ‘pretend’ to be like one of the peasants in such...More

I loved all of the gilded glamour, but nothing charmed me like the Hameau. It was so beautiful and restful and charming; it's easy to see why Marie Antoinette wanted to retreat here. Everything has been restored and is very beautiful. There's a great functioning...More

Versailles is huge so be prepared for a lot of walking. This place is a little out of beaten path. It's worth to go, but it's going to be very tiring. Plan accordingly.

A wonderful collection of rural buildings that evoke the rustic charm of village life. It was obviously a charming release for the Queen and her children from the rigours of court life.

This was a little themepark that Marie had built for she and her friends to play peasant life, but still have the comforts of royal life. No wonder the peasants revolted against her.
