My wife and I and another couple took a cooking class at this great school. The course, on how to make a very unique gazpacho with shrimp, was given in English which was wonderful considering that our French is very poor. We learned some basic knife techniques and how to deal with cleaning and peeling shrimp the easiest way. The best part was that we got to eat our creation for a wonderful light lunch! We all had a great time and are looking forward to our next visit in 2016.

I'm an American living in Paris for a few months. Unfortunately, I do not speak French. Nonetheless, I LOVE this fun Parisian experience. Yes, the chefs are French and not all of them speak fluent English. However, a cooking class includes a lot of demonstration and it is easy to follow -- just watch and learn. I have experienced three lunch cooking classes at the Atelier Guy Martin. I like that many local Parisians go there on their lunch breaks. I like that the ambience is wonderful, the kitchen is super clean, the meals are fantastic and I learn how to make something fabulous and quick (thereby more likely to be tried at home). At lunch, the guests arrive at 12:30, everything is ready, the participants help prepare the meal for thirty minutes, and then we sit together and enjoy a delicious and beautifully presented meal. In my experience, in Paris it is very difficult to have a nice lunch without committing at least two hours and close to 100 Euros for two people. At the Atelier Guy Martin, you can have a really beautiful meal, learn how to prepare it, have fun and make new "Parisian friends" all in less than 90 minutes and for less than 50 euros for two people. The price varies on the menu being prepared. In my three experiences, the lunch prices ranged from 11 Euro/person to 19 Euro/person. Wine, coffee and dessert are optional at an additional charge. In my opinion, if you want to be with all Americans, stay in the U.S.! The Parisians I have "cooked with" at Guy Martin Atelier have all been extremely nice, friendly and more than happy to help translate, if needed. And, many of the Guy Martin chefs do speak a little (or a lot) of English. In addition, the manager Flavian Martin (Guy Martin's son) is very nice and very helpful and he speaks English fluently.

My husband and I had a horrible experience at this workshop. We were visiting Paris for the first time and prepaid for a cooking class here. I had inquired beforehand if the class would be taught in English because we do not speak fluent French. I was assured via email that we would have an English speaking chef for the class we were attending. We got lost on the way to the class and arrived a few minutes late. We got in as quickly as possible and were given the job to wash the fish. After washing the fish we joined the group and awaited further instruction. Unfortunately, we were treated very rudely and were ignored for the rest of the entire class. The only English words I heard the whole class was "wash the fish". When we saw they were about to plate the food, my husband asked if he could speak with a manager. To make a long story short, we explained the situation to the manager who basically blamed us for what had happened. He was not willing to help or do anything to make up for the way we were treated and unfortunately, we left the Atelier Guy Martin frustrated, hungry and without a cent of our money back. I understand that mistakes happen so this review is not based on the mistakes within the class, my review is based on how the manager handled the situation. We were very disappointed. I cannot comment on the quality of the food or the teaching because we did not receive either of those things. This Atelier is NOT for tourists wanting to take a cooking class and in our experience, is not one that holds the customer's needs/wants very highly.
