Address
Neighborhood: Ile de la Cité / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

A very good place for a conference
Mar 2020
I attended a bioethics conference held here and this is not really a hotel. It belonged to the Institute of Advanced Studies and it is set in a very opulent and splendid building dating back to the 18th Century. The food served as lunch was very excellent, and the cuisine is French. Thoroughly enjoyed by one day stay at the venue.

Hotel de Lauzen
Feb 2019 • Friends
I always enjoy tours with Thierry Heil because they are frequently "off the beaten path" and not the places every tourist has on their list. This was definetly the case with Hotel de Lauzen, a private home dating from the 17th Century located on the Isle Saint-Louis
If you walked past this imposing building you might never imagine the glories hidden inside! Entering from the street was like stepping back in time. Theirry made the rooms come alive with his stories of the families who lived in this amazing place, including the legendary parties attended by Victor Hugo and Baudelaire!

This is one of the fanciest and most beautiful town houses on the Quai along Ile St. Louis. Lots of famous people have lived here. Slow down and take a look as you wander along.

Nice Exterior Architectural Details
Mar 2018 • Couples
I put together a self-guided exterior architecture tour of Ile St. Louis as part of my plan to keep my husband and me focused and awake after a long flight to Paris from the United States. Hotel de Lauzun, a 1657 multi-floor mansion, made my list of stops. It stands on the island's eastern end, overlooking the Seine. The building appears to be in excellent condition and shows off a richly ornamented balcony on its North facade. There is also a distinctive drainpipe that adds another element of interest.

The mansion's interior, one of the few in Paris still preserved from the 17th century, is supposed to be spectacular. Information about the limited interior tours, which are only in French, can be found on-line.

Since it went up, Hotel de Lauzun has gone through many owners, including the Duke of Lauzun, who lived there for three years. The estate is now the property of the City of Paris.

Beautiful interiors and well worth a visit
Jan 2018
It really is worth visiting this beautiful building as its one of the very few left with its original 17th century carved, painted and gilded interiors.

The Hotel de Lauzun is a beautiful ornate building and is worth taking a look at fir the gold leaf on the balconies and the decorative facade. Just beautiful. I walked past it and admired it many times before realising it was listed as a tourist attraction.

Difficult access.
Jan 2014 • Solo
A product of 17th Century construction, Hotel de Lauzun is located on the eastern edge of Ile St. Louis. It has passed through a number of owners and roles over the years and now belongs to the city of Paris. Offering a rare insight into the lives of the wealthy in Paris during the 1600’s, a number of famous poets and artists have stayed here over the years. Unfortunately, according to my tour guide it is open only for “French tours” although even then I couldn’t figure out how to try to enroll in one. Perhaps a future intrepid Trip Advisor member can enlighten us but for this writer a quick view from the street was about all that was obtained.
