What a wonderful renovation and re-imagination of this museum. Kudos to France! Everything is great. The space, the organization, flow of people, exhibits, variety. There is something for everyone. You don't have to think you are a big maritime fan, you will still find lots of things interesting here. It was full of kids on January 4th visit (French school holidays) but their parents were also enjoying it. The building and the quality of renovation work is amazing.
Some of the exhibits (such as oil shipping) sound like the government committee wrote it, but those are things you can overlook. I found all the signs were appropriate and not overly tailored to any particular point of view - not slanted. For example things about Napoleon could just talk about what he did and not glorify or criticize it, this is a welcome change from some places that feel everything needs to be criticized.
Don't miss the massive ship figureheads, and the variety of oil paintings on maritime subjects is also large and impressive for the art lovers.
Currently the special exhibit on FILM regarding ocean is expansive and could be time consuming. We breezed through it because we had been there too long, but you could easily spend another two hours in the Film exhibit. It is not permanent, so perhaps the next exhibit will be a bit smaller.
All the signage of permanent exhibits is in French and English, thank you France for recognizing this need in the renovation - it would be funny to open a new museum 2023 and not make the signs bilingual.
Tips: there was not much if any line to enter, no need to prebook tickets (that way you can stay flexible to timing). Plan on 2-3 hours depending your interest in the special exhibit portion.

This incredible museum has just re-opened after more than 7 years of a complete overhaul. It is an incredible museum that brings into perspective the impact oceans, history and our future.
We expected a traditional museum but this one is so much better than any I have visited - we rate it at the top with one of our favorite the WWII in New Orleans.
Everything is there to remind us of the waves and seas such as walls that curb and a delicate smell of fresh air on the coast of Brittany, even the giant wave experience in the middle reminds ys of the power and strength. They have a multitude of artifacts, paintings and historic exhibits which remind us of the past but the focus on the future is present - we watches as children excitedly touched items or listened to an interactive guide in character (in front of a 17th century painting) there even were a few musicians with instruments and laying at one point.
There is a restaurant that offers very affordable menus (lovely welcoming and friendly staff) which doesn’t require buying a ticket. Seasonal and delicious, apparently once a week will be a special seafood menu on Thursdays.

Staff not very helpful in directing us to open displays. WW1/II areas closed when we went . Resistance ground floor display nearly all in French. If can, spend more time in 3 floor music, weapons area.

The Musée National de la Marine in Paris has been closed since 2017 and will not reopen until November 2023. Since the museum was not open during this period, are you sure this review concern our establishment?

My twin brother Stephen and I taking in the views from Place De Trocadero Et Du 11 Novembre of the Eiffel Tower and from this square you can also view or visit Musee National De La Marine ,one of the great museums of Paris.
Housed in a great looking building ,this museum charts the history of all things relating to the French navy from the 17th century up to modernity ,if you're near Place De Trocadero Et Du 11 Novembre it's a museum to most definitely check out .

I visited in early October,2021. It is open and stunning. I felt as if I had stepped back to the time of Louis XVI. There are wonderful visual displays telling the history. There is also a cafe and restaurant that I will try next time. So far it is an unknown gem so not crowded.

Sad to say the museum is closed for refurbishment which was a great disappointment as I have been working for the last 5 weeks in Paris in the very building - but no visit.

Located in the middle of the trocadero is this medium sized naval museum. Lots of nautical history and items of interest on display. Best metro station is Trocadero.

There is a whole room of paintings dedicated to the French Navy and their help during the Revolution. Amazing.
Anyone interested in Naval history, fishing, etc will find this small Museum a marvel. It's situated next to the
Citi of Man, another great place to visit, with a new restaurant that was fantastic. This building overlooks the best
view of the Effiel Tower in all the city.
