Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

Marais is one of the most walkable and interesting areas of Paris. It is full of wonderful hotels particuliere, courtyards of many of which can be admired at no charge. Specialty-only businesses are plentiful and wonderful.

This is one of the best areas in Paris, not too touristy, great cafes, restaurants it is a lovey area to wander around and is usually not very crowded. The cafes we ate at were all good food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

We like the Marais, and the next time we come to Paris, we're hoping to find a place to stay here. Shops and cafes make strolling around a joy.

Le Marais is gentrifying rapidly and losing a lot of it's character. But there is still plenty of beautiful medieval architecture and still specialty shops for every taste.

It was wonderful sitting on the grass, visiting Victor Hugo's house for free, and listening to a group of very talented singers in the wonderful acoustics under the arches. This is a must on a trip to Paris.

The gay district is not much different than most gay areas of any large city. Fun gay bars, lively, hip crowd. Very safe, good restaurants - we enjoyed it very much. We did not stay out very late but later (after 11) bars do offer...More

We visited Le Marias with a great sense of anticipation but Saturday afternoon was hot and very crowded. Crazy busy and not that pleasant for a walk around. We preferred the boulevards and streets of St Germain and 6 &7th arrondisements.

Sorry, the Marais could have such a shop on the main boulevards, but not too likely.
