Our hotel was adjacent to this cemetery and when the summer temperature soared we decided to take a walk about. The lovely trees provided cooling shade and the tombs were absolutely fascinating. It is a quiet and peaceful place to visit.

Montmartre Cemetery is incredible! There are beautiful graves and crypts galore. Some of the memorials are so unusual, that they are certainly classified as works of art. There are quite a few luminaries buried here and they do offer laminated loaner maps to locate them....More

It's not the biggest cemetery in Paris, but it may be the loveliest. Most Americans want to visit the one where Jim Morrison is buried (Pere LaChaise), so this is a less crowded alternative. There are still plenty of famous folks buried here...including filmmaker Francois...More

Well worth a visit. Final resting place for many famous people this is a well laid out place with a peaceful atmosphere despite the bustling city all around. A good walk and great place for peaceful reflection.

You have to hand it to the French: they REALLY do cemeteries well. I am part of a cemetery photographing group in South Africa, so a fair part of my trip to Paris was spent in cemeteries. This is bigger than a lot of the...More

I've visited Paris many times over the past 40 or so years. And I can say that the Cimetière de Montmartre is quite possibly my favourite spot in Paris. Lots of famous people have found their final resting place in the cemetery. But don't worry...More

Interesting cemetery to visit with some well known residents, bit hard to navigate. Went looking Degas only to find him behind a tree as De Gas. Also Dalida was worth visiting. So many unusual monuments

Famous for the location of the fancy tomb of Dalida, superstar from the disco era. Come and worship, maybe sing a song?

Say what you like about the French, they do a good cemetery. Although a map is available not all of the monuments are easy to find. Do your homework before you go if there are any graves you are particularly looking for. Be prepared to...More

I know this answer comes a little late. But when we visited, we met a nice woman who was feeding the cats. She is one of several people who take care of them so there is no need to worry for their wellbeing.
