About
This famous Left Bank neighborhood, so named because the numerous university students in the area spoke only Latin to their professors until the French Revolution, preserves an authentic Parisian atmosphere of old.

    Latin Quarter
Enjoyed a couple of days of wondering around the Latin Quarter as it was next to where we stayed in St Germain. So much history in the area the Sorbonne and Pantheon to name a few. Interesting shops and great bars and restaurants. Neighbourhood that's a rich part of the history of old Paris.

    Amazing neighborhood.
My husband and I rented an apartment for two weeks in the Latin Quarter in May 2023. It was a wonderful neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants, but located in an area where you can walk to many other places and explore. It was fairly quiet at night, and we felt very safe. We will definitely make the Latin Quarter our "home base" on our next trip to Paris.

    Great For Walking
Fun part of the city. Small and very old churches. Famous jazz clubs that I didn’t have time to come back to in the evening! Food and pastries galore, so you must stop and sample - one is better than the next! Fun day strolling around.

    Left Bank quarter
This is the oldest part of Paris as it's where the Romans built the original settlements, as well as near where the Gallic Parisii tribe was. Lots of shops, restaurants, and sites to see and visit. Take your time and enjoy the walk. Just be mindful of careless cyclists and cars.

    Exceptional tour.
This tour with Georgia was absolutely marvellous. She made the Latin Quarter come alive for us, leading through the architecture of the various centuries and the stories the the buildings told. We cannot recommend this tour enough for anyone that wants to know the story of Paris.

I made my way to the Latin Quarter by following Rick Steve's audio tour of historical Paris. A bustling area, with lots of bars and restaurants. Probably a very interesting and lively night out!

    The Influence of the Universities
We have a dear friend who has long lived in this area, and she fits right in as a retired professor from a local university. So we were here to visit, sat in a great cafe, shared glasses of wine, observed the flocks of cool young people all around. The importance of the universities here cannot be over-emphasized as the are the economic engine and flavor everything.

Latin Quarter amazing and close to everything, such as Notre Dame and the Louvre, great Hotel and everything within walking distance or near to the
Subway (be aware the subways are excellent but haze no escalators, only stairs.)
Would go again in a heart beat

My wife and I had booked into a small-group walking tour of the Latin Quarter in Paris in September, with 2 to 3 hours set aside in the afternoon for the experience. Rain had fallen for much of the morning but whilst it dampened the commitment of our fellow-walkers (who withdrew) it held off for much of the afternoon and we enjoyed the undivided attention of our guide from Stellar Tours, booked through Viator. Alberto, who also turned out to be the founder of Stellar, was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed his historical and social insights into Paris and the Latin Quarter, as well as the special places to visit and the people who lived and worked there. The time went all too quickly. Highly recommended.

Ideal arrondissement to set camp in if you want to enjoy the 'vibe' of Paris. Many restaurants and landmarks at walking distance.

In my opinion the best area of the Left Bank and the 5th Arrondissement is the Latin Quarter .
This arrondissement is home to the great university's ,colleges and schools ,the world famous Sorbonne University is found here so it has a thriving student population and thus has many great cafés,pubs, bars and restaurants ,it's lively, boisterous district and one of my must go destinations on any holiday I take to this wonderful city ,well worth checking out if you're planning a holiday to Paris.
