Paris has no shortage of bakeries of all sorts, from plain breads to fine pastries but Poilane stands above them all (or at least at the top of a short list). Its breads are the perfect combination of chewy and crisp and one almost feels...More

I have stopped by Poilane at least once during most of my regular trips to Paris, hoping that I will eventually buy a bread, tart or some baked goodie that holds a wow factor. That hasn't happened yet. Everything I've tried is certainly OK but...More

This place had rave reviews and was billed as one of the best bakeries in a place known for bakeries. Several desserts had fruit flies buzzing around them, which possibly coloured my view of the place. The coffee was ok but considering the reviews, it...More

Perfect Apple Tart, flaky and yummy even on the next day. Plain croissant is also good, although I had better ones from small boulangerie around 1st Arrondissement. Overall, this is a known bakery and decent place...we’ll be back!

Came here thanks to TA’s reviews. Had a coffee and a sourdough with chocolate. As I was alone, this was too much! Should have ordered something else. The waiter was actually rather brash and I didn’t feel welcome. When I went to the bakery I...More

A 3rd generation bakery doing sourdough right! We make a pilgrimage of sorts to this tiny shop every time we visit Paris for the Rye Raisin buns & Sourdough. The taste is amazing and different than anything I have tasted elsewhere. And consistent, same taste...More

We were told to go to Poilane by the owner of a Colorado French Bakery and Patisserie. He worked in Paris for several years and I believe he worked at Poilane some time ago. It is not a very big place on a quiet street...More

Poilâne Bakery - arguably the best bakery in Paris for classic loaves bread (not baguette), croissants and apple tarts. We are thankful to @annmahnet and Jeffrey Steingarten and their books for the discovery of this amazing place, located literally minutes away from our home -...More

In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic
and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is

Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine

Yes, all fresh bread is still there at the afternoon. The only things that are hard to buy in late afternoon are croissants and other sweet pastries.
