The Arc de triomphe was begun in 1806, on the orders of Napoleon I to honour the victories of his Grande Armée. Inspired by the great arches of antiquity, the monument combines the commemorative with the symbolic and it has always played a major role in the national republican consciousness. Every evening, the flame is lit on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Great War. An exhibition portrays the history and explains its symbolic importance, nationally as well as internationally. The terrace provides superb views both by day and night across the city and its great sweeping avenues.-Opening hours : April to September: from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; October to March: from 10 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.-Closed: 1st January, 1st May, 8th May (morning), 14th July (morning), 11th November (morning), 25th December-Entry fees: Adults = 9,5 €; Concessions = 6 €; Free admission: 18-25 years old* (citizens of one of the 27 countries of the EU or are non-European permanent residents of France) * excluding school groups

The parade and army planes flying low in the sky over the Arc de Triumph was great! Lots of restaurants, shops, bakeries…just a lovely area.

We spent 30 minutes looking at the traffic on the roundabout. The structure itself is nice and definitely massive. Did not bother to go upstairs. After Eiffel tower everything is small.

We enjoyed this much more than Eiffel tower. Bought tickets ahead to skip the line. Wasn't too crowded and got great views. Then you can walk and go shopping.

A gigantic Arc where one takes nice photo. You may consider going up the stairs to have a skyview of the surrounding area

The terrace is very big and basically goes around the whole top of the Arc de Triomphe. I don’t know if you can hold private events there. I guess it’s the best if you inquire with the official website of the monument.

We bought them onsite. It was not busy at all. Maybe they changed their ticketing service.

You will be able to visit the Arc from an underground passage. It’s free to visit the ground level but you can pay to go up and have a better view of Paris. We didn’t go up but you can buy the tickets onsite. In all... More
