A peaceful oasis in a busy city. We walked through a large portion and found it full of large, interesting monuments and pretty graves, some with large plots, others tiny. It was well organized and graves of famous people were easy to locate. Sections were...More

I must admit I originally went just to see Jim Morrison's grave, however I'm so glad that we had a good walk around and saw so many beautiful crypts. It is a very large graveyard and thankfully there is a map at the entrance -...More

When my dad told me that he wanted me to visit Pere Lachaise while in Paris, I was a little leery about wandering around a cemetery. However, it was actually really cool. There are some really cool looking tombs there and you can also see...More

I am in love with this stunning cemetery. I have been there on multiple occasions and there always something I have not noticed before. My friend and I spent 3 hours there during this visit. I showed her Jim Morrisons and Oscar Wildes graves.

This is where Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and… I didn’t actually know anyone else… are buried. Some of Europe’s most famous writers, poets and philosophers are here, I’m just not really up on that side of French culture. Whether you know them or not, the...More

The cemetery is so beautiful and old. It is a great place to walk around. It was sad to see how dirty and vandalized Jim Morrison's grave is.

Spent a very enjoyable morning here. Found most of the graves we were looking for. Walked past Sarah Bernhard half a dozen times before we were told she was hiding behind a large hedge. Couldn't find Marcel Marcel Marceau at all. A word of warning,...More

This is an absolutely stunning resting place beyond compare and it's almost overwhelming to think how many people sleep beneath the walkways. Really fascinating collection of human histories. I will say, however, that I had an odd experience with a self appointed tour guide. Rafael...More

Stunning cemetery where care is obviously given to the residents sleeping. Visited twice as some of the plots are difficult to see, depending on the weather. Better weather. Better experience. Peaceful. Serene. Make sure to respect those sleeping, though. Print a map before coming. While...More

Belleville / Pere Lachaise
At the eastern edge of Paris lies Belleville / Père
Lachaise, an understated wonderland of local
treasures. Alongside the world-famous cemetery,
family-owned delicatessens and cafés nestle between
local stores and establishments. The richness of the
population here has created a little Chinatown of
Asian restaurants, and the area comes to life at night
by a funky underground scene. Façades change from one
